Advancing the Right to Know
Access Info is working to make the right to ask and the right to know a reality for everyone in Europe: Citizens around Europe do not enjoy equal levels of access to information held by public authorities. Many people face problems when asking for information about government activities and the spending of public funds. Some countries are still without specific access to information laws, and others are lagging behind international standards. Access Info works to promote high standards on the right of access to information in the national laws and in the rules of international organisations.
Council of Europe: Campaign for the 47 member states of the Council of Europe to ratify and implement the new Convention on Access to Official Documents.
European Union: Holding the EU accountable and working to ensure that the transparency rules of the EU are above minimum standards and allow for full participation by the public.
Aid Transparency: Campaign for greater transparency of aid flows focusing on increasing the information proactively published by European donors.
Spain: Campaign to promote a full access to information law - Spain is one of the few EU countries which do not have a dedicated mechanism for the public to access government information.
Open Cyprus: formation of a bi-communal civil society coalition for the advancement of greater government transparency and accountability island-wide, as well as for the promotion of public participation in decision-making procedures and public procurement of information in accordance with international legal standards.
