Examples of our work
In 2010 Access Info Europe staff provided help and advice to those who wrote to and called the help desk, including for example:
› Media: we provided advice to journalists from Romania, Spain, Mexico, the Ukraine, the United States, and the UK
› Transnational: we advised a requestor from Finland seeking information on the education system in Portugal, we helped a requestor from the United States file requests in Spain about safety checks in cruise ships, and a campaigning organisation in Brussels wanting to file requests in France and Germany.
› Education: we gave guidance to students from Belgium, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the UK.
› Individuals: we've helped individuals from across Europe as well as from further afield such as Argentina, Jordan, and Iran.
› Organisations: we have given advice to anti-corruption groups from Ireland and Croatia, human rights groups from Brussels and Austria, animal rights groups from the UK, and environmental groups from Spain.
› Supranational: we have frequently provided assistance on how to access EU access to documents, and have helped other civil society organisations file requests. We have given guidance on UN, UNDP, World Bank and Unesco transparency and have filed requests at the UN about the arms trade as part of support given to a journalist conducting research.
Support the Help Desk! In 2011 Access Info is raising funds to keep staffing the Help Desk. Our target is a total of €13,960 which will go exclusively to expert staff time working on the Help Desk and related costs such as phone calls.
