There are many ways in which you can become involved in the work of Access Info Europe to advance and defend the right to know in Europe, and globally.

Make Requests

Public information is held by governments on behalf of citizens. If there is information that you need –for your work, from your local council, from the public health or transport bodies– then pick up a pen or grab the keyboard and ask your government for this information. Asking for information strengthens the right to know: use it or lose it!

Campaign

• Find a freedom of information organisation near you, see, foiadvocates.net and learn more about their work;
• Start your own group to campaign on transparency and access to information in your local area;
• If you are at a university or other institution campaign for budget transparency and participative decision making;
• Write letters to governments, state institutions, and international organisations like the IMF and World Bank and tell them what information you want to see them publish on their websites.

Spread the Word about Access to Information

• Tell friends and family about the importance of access to information.
• Write about access to information on your website or blog and include links to the Access Info Europe website.
• Write articles or contribute to forums mentioning the right of access to information.
• Form a local discussion group to talk about the issues surrounding transparency.
• If you are a student or a teacher introduce the issue into your classes.

Be a Volunteer!

There are two ways to volunteer with Access Info:

In the office: if you live in Madrid, you can come into our offices and help us with our daily campaigning and research work. We are quite flexible, you can be a part time or full time volunteer, or do a fixed term internship with us for a month or more. In the office we love to have enthusiastic people with good computer and research skills who are eager to learn. If you have any extra abilities such as languages or design skills these are especially welcome!

At a Distance: Alternatively, you can help us from a distance by contributing your skills in activities such as translation, editing, communication, and web design. To find out more, please contact us. We do all we can to ensure that volunteers with Access Info have the opportunityto build their skills and get involved with projects that interest them .. and we promise to inform all volunteers of any paid posts that arise.
