{"id":11319,"date":"2011-08-03T15:00:48","date_gmt":"2011-08-03T15:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/s1-advancing-the-right-to-know\/c2-european-union\/11319"},"modified":"2018-11-13T10:13:30","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T09:13:30","slug":"new-german-transparency-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/es\/2011-08-03\/new-german-transparency-website\/","title":{"rendered":"new german transparency website"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"color: #008f92;\">Germany: Civil society website makes it easier to ask for government information<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\"><em>Madrid\/Berlin, Friday 1 August 2011<\/em> &#8211; A coalition of German and international access to information organisations, which includes Access Info Europe, <div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-overflow:visible;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last fusion-column-no-min-height\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\">[1] today launched a portal for submitting information requests to the German government. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The German Freedom of Informatio<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">n law came into force in 2006, but the majority of German citizens are still not aware of their right to access information held by public authorities, nor the procedures for doing so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Developed by the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Open Knowledge Foundation Germany, the new internet portal \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/fragdenstaat.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">Frag den Staat<\/a>\u201d<\/em><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> (\u201cAsk the State\u201d) aims to serve as a central online hub for requests addressed to German federal ministries and all federal public bodies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The \u201cF<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><em>rag den Staat<\/em><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201d portal will make it easy for anyone to file a request via an online form. Responses from public authorities will automatically be published on the web platform so that they are freely accessible for everybody. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u201c<span lang=\"en-US\"><em>We are simplifying the process of asking for information in Germany and making it more transparent for the average citizen<\/em><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">,\u201d commented Daniel Dietrich of the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany. \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><em>This should also reduce the burden on public bodies as it helps prevent filing of multiple requests for the same information<\/em><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">A special feature of the web <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">portal designed for NGOs and journalists is that requests will not be made public immediately while a story is being pursued in order to ensure exclusivity;
