{"id":12308,"date":"2013-10-24T08:55:28","date_gmt":"2013-10-24T08:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/s1-advancing-the-right-to-know\/c44-business-transparency\/12308"},"modified":"2018-11-13T10:12:19","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T09:12:19","slug":"letter-to-mr-lange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/es\/2013-10-24\/letter-to-mr-lange\/","title":{"rendered":"Civil society outlines concerns to DG Enlargement about Montenegrin efforts to combat corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Podgorica\/Madrid, 23 October 2013<\/em> &#8211; Today, Access Info with Montenegrin and international civil society organisations outlined concerns about Montenegro&#8217;s efforts to combat corruption and organised crime, highlighting the reduction of information publically available on the national company register, in a<a class=\"jce_file\" title=\"A_letter_to_EU_originalno.pdf\" href=\"http:\/\/www.access-info.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/A_letter_to_EU_originalno.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> letter<\/a> sent to Mr. Dirk Lange, the Head of Unit for Montenegro within the European Commission&#8217;s Directorate General for Enlargement.<\/p>\n<p>The recent actions of the Montenegrin government will undermine and challenge efforts by civil society organizations and media to investigate cases of corruption and organised crime and to hold government to account.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abWe note that, while the police and prosecution in Montenegro still have limited results, there is a solid track record of possible corruption and organized crime cases having been disclosed by civil society and media using information from mentioned public registries\u00bb states the letter. \u00abIt is hence of utmost importance that information from those registries remain public and unrestricted.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>As part of the process of EU integration, Montenegro should be introducing higher standards of transparency of government operations and delivering \u2013 not less &#8211; information to its citizens.
