{"id":12310,"date":"2013-10-24T09:54:48","date_gmt":"2013-10-24T09:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/s1-advancing-the-right-to-know\/c2-european-union\/12310"},"modified":"2018-11-13T10:12:19","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T09:12:19","slug":"ep-statement-on-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/es\/2013-10-24\/ep-statement-on-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations from the European Parliament and Michael Cashman on the ECJ ruling, Council v Access Info Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Madrid, 22 October 2013<\/em> &#8211; The European Parliament has issued <a href=\"http:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/es\/news-room\/content\/20131022IPR22801\/html\/European-Parliament-stands-in-Court-for-the-EU%E2%80%99s-citizens-right-to-know\" target=\"_blank\">a statement<\/a> welcoming the 17 October 2013 ruling by the European Court of Justice in the case of <a href=\"http:\/\/curia.europa.eu\/juris\/liste.jsf?pro=&amp;nat=&amp;oqp=&amp;dates=&amp;lg=&amp;language=en&amp;jur=C%2CT%2CF&amp;cit=none%252CC%252CCJ%252CR%252C2008E%252C%252C%252C%252C%252C%252C%252C%252C%252C%252Ctrue%252Cfalse%252Cfalse&amp;td=ALL&amp;pcs=O&amp;avg=&amp;page=1&amp;mat=or&amp;parties=access&amp;jge=&amp;f\" target=\"_blank\">Council v Access Info Europe Case C-280\/11 P<\/a> stating that EU citizens need a clearer and wider access to the decision-making process.<\/p>\n<p>The European Parliament had joined Access Info Europe in defending against attempts by the Council of the EU to quash a 2011 its 2001 win before the General Court which ruled that the NGO should have full access to Council documents.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>MEP Michael Cashman, who has been a strong defender of the right of access to EU documents and has worked to improve the existing rules, stated: <em>\u00abI congratulate Access Info Europe for helping, through this case, to clarify EU legislation and keeping all of us accountable.
