{"id":17220,"date":"2015-06-26T12:57:28","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T10:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.access-info.org\/?p=17220"},"modified":"2020-01-29T11:07:19","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T10:07:19","slug":"new-lobby-transparency-civic-tech-tools-reveal-corporate-dominance-of-the-brussels-bubble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/es\/2015-06-26\/new-lobby-transparency-civic-tech-tools-reveal-corporate-dominance-of-the-brussels-bubble\/","title":{"rendered":"New lobby transparency civic-tech tools reveal corporate dominance of the Brussels bubble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Madrid, 25 June 2015 <\/em>&#8211; The RTI community celebrated this week the launch of two groundbreaking online tools that enable citizens to monitor the interactions between high-level European Commission officials and lobbyists in the Brussels bubble:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bb <a href=\"http:\/\/lobbyfacts.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LobbyFacts.eu<\/a>, created by ALTER-EU&#8217;s Corporate Europe&#8217;s Observatory, Friends of the Earth Europe and LobbyControl, and relaunched last week, is a site that delivers easy access to data from the EU Transparency Register, allowing you to compare entries over time and to sort and rank the data contained in the EU&#8217;s (still voluntary) Transparency Register;<\/p>\n<p>\u00bb <a href=\"http:\/\/www.integritywatch.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IntegrityWatch.eu<\/a>, created by the Transparency International EU office, is an interactive database which provides an overview of the more than 4000 high-level European Commission lobby meetings that have been held since December 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The civic-tech tools are revealing that industry lobbyists <a href=\"https:\/\/euobserver.com\/justice\/129259\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">clearly dominate<\/a> when it comes to interacting with the European Commission, holding 75% of the meetings while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/datablog\/2015\/jun\/24\/three-quarters-declared-eu-lobby-meetings-corporate-interests?CMP=share_btn_tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">only 18%<\/a> of declared lobby meetings are held with NGOs.<\/p>\n<p>Access Info Europe welcomes the European Commission&#8217;s renewed commitment to transparency, which allows these data-crunching tools to flourish and empower civil society to demand greater and fairer representation of CSOs and NGOs in the EU&#8217;s decision-making process.
