{"id":28158,"date":"2017-03-22T19:14:40","date_gmt":"2017-03-22T18:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/?p=28158"},"modified":"2020-01-29T11:42:44","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T10:42:44","slug":"european-civil-society-organsations-urge-eu-to-publish-anti-corruption-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/es\/2017-03-22\/european-civil-society-organsations-urge-eu-to-publish-anti-corruption-reports\/","title":{"rendered":"European Civil Society Organisations Urge EU to Publish Anti-Corruption Reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Madrid, 22 March 2017<\/em> \u2013 Access Info Europe, Transparency International EU, and 56 other civil society organisations have urged the Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017-03-21-Final-Timmermans_60anniversary.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in an open letter<\/a> not to abandon its leadership role in the fight against corruption, after it dropped the publication of long-awaited anti-corruption reports of all 28 Member States earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The letter, also being sent directly to First Vice-President Frans Timmermans, comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/frontpage\/27794\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an access to EU documents request for the actual draft reports<\/a> was submitted by 14 leading transparency and anti-corruption organisations in Europe, including Access Info.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Access to these reports is essential in giving European citizens the tools they need to identify where improvements to fighting corruption can be made, and hold their national representatives to account<\/em>,\u201d stated Helen Darbishire, Executive Director of Access Info Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the EU\u2019s 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the decision to drop the reports was announced in a letter to the European Parliament by First Vice-President Frans Timmermans.
