{"id":29663,"date":"2017-09-29T17:08:43","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T15:08:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/?p=29663"},"modified":"2018-11-13T10:03:07","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T09:03:07","slug":"decision-making-transparency-in-europe-identified-as-top-priority-on-international-right-to-know-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/es\/2017-09-29\/decision-making-transparency-in-europe-identified-as-top-priority-on-international-right-to-know-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Decision-Making Transparency in Europe identified as top priority on International Right to Know Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Brussels, 29 September 2017<\/em> \u2013 Members of the European Parliament together with CSOs, academics, and journalists from across the EU have called for greater openness of decision making and full transparency of spending of public funds in the final declaration of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/events\/29475\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Right to Know Day event<\/a> held on 28 September 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The closing statement of the expert, high-level event, organised by the European Parliament\u2019s cross-party Transparency and Anti-Corruption Intergroup (ITCO) along with Access Info Europe and Anticor Belgium, also called for full respect for the right of access to information, and urged all EU Member States to align their access to information laws with international standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>On the 15<sup>th<\/sup> International Right to Know Day, it\u2019s clear what the key European transparency challenges are and it\u2019s important that we agreed common priorities for action<\/em>,\u201d said Helen Darbishire, Director of Access Info.<\/p>\n<p>The Statement reflects the findings of a three-year research project by Access Info and partners across Europe into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.access-info.org\/decision-making-transparency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decision-making transparency<\/a>, which identified problems such as lack of record keeping, slow responses to requests, and over-application of exceptions.
