Are you between 18 and 30 years old, passionate about human rights and journalism, and resident in either Malta or Spain?

Then we are looking for you!

The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation and Access Info Europe, two civil society organisations based in Malta and Madrid, are looking for youths interested in participating in the one-year Freedom of Information Youth Project!

The project aims to offer to a group of 45 young people based in Spain and Malta the possibility to participate in a series of training sessions designed to leverage the fundamental right of access to information and raise greater awareness on the benefits of this right. The project will start at the end of February 2021 and take place over a year. It is addressed to individuals aged 18-30, with a good level of English, resident in Malta or in Spain.

Participants will be mentored by representatives from the respective NGOs and have the opportunity to attend high-profile guest-speaker events, network with like-minded individuals, and start long-term partnerships for future projects. They will learn from experienced professionals with vast experience in filing freedom of information requests and therefore discover more about the right of access to information. Participants will be asked to complete their own freedom of information requests on topics of their choice, and work on a policy strategy to improve the right of access to information within their jurisdiction. At the end of the project, participants will have the opportunity to propose their ideas to respective decision makers in Malta and in Spain.

As most activities will be carried out online – at least during the first half of the project – participants will have the opportunity to coordinate meetings around their timetable, and activities will be appropriate for individuals who are in full-time employment or education. Training sessions and speaker events will also be scheduled in a way that suits the majority of participants.

Whether you have an interest in journalism, law, human rights, politics, activism, or are simply interested in learning more about access to information, this project will be well suited to you!

To register interest to be part of the Freedom of Information Youth Project, please fill in this form by Sunday, 21 February 2021. We will review the answers and get back to you by Friday, 26 February 2021.

Should you have any question, feel free to drop an email to Azzurra Moores – azzurra@daphne.foundation and/or Martina Tombini – martina@access-info.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
