Madrid, 23 September 2013 – The Data Journalism Handbook, a free, openly licensed reference book showing journalists how to use data to improve the news has been translated into French, Spanish and Russian.

Organised by Open Knowledge Foundation along with the European Journalism Centre, the Handbook explains not only about what data journalism is, but also how to get it, use it, understand it and how to present it. Access Info’s Executive Director, Helen Darbishire, was a contributor to the access to information section of the Handbook.

The Data Journalism Handbook was born at a 48 hour workshop at MozFest 2011 in London. It subsequently spilled over into an international, collaborative effort involving dozens of data journalism’s leading advocates and best practitioners – including from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC, the Chicago Tribune, Deutsche Welle, the Guardian, the Financial Times, Helsingin Sanomat, La Nacion, the New York Times, ProPublica, the Washington Post, the Texas Tribune, Verdens Gang, Wales Online, Zeit Online and many others.

Three new translations, into Chinese, Portuguese and Arabic, will be published in the coming months.
