Helen Darbishire, Executive Director of Access Info Europe, participated in the panel discussions organized for the World Press Freedom Day 2016 under the title “Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms – This Is Your Right!”. The World Press Freedom Day 2016 highlighted the links between press freedom, a culture of openness and the right to freedom of information, and sustainable development in the digital age.

This year’s panel discussions examined the questions from three different perspectives:

»  freedom of information as a fundamental freedom and as a human right,
»  protecting press freedom from censorship and surveillance overreach; and
»  ensuring safety for journalism online and offline.

Helen Dabishire took part as a moderator of the discussion organized by FOIAnet on “The Right to Information- Focus on Gender and Other Benefits”.
